Mrs. Willie Womack was born in Caswell County, NC to the late Romulus and Cordie Siddle Watlington on August 4, 1931. She attended Caswell County High School where she met and married the late Clarence Hinton. They moved to Newport News, VA when he entered the military. This union resulted in one child, Cornelius Marlow Hinton. Willie and Clarence later divorced.
Willie met and married Robert Womack. They were married for over 50 years. She gained additional family members from his prior marriage including four children: Robert Jr., Connie, Glen, and Larry. She and the family moved to Washington, DC.
Willie earned a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree and worked for a private practice. She later worked for K-Mart in Maryland. While in DC, she used her cooking skills to bake butter biscuits and give them to kids who were hungry after school.
She had joined Blackwell Baptist Church in Yanceyville at an early age and later Le Detroit Baptist Church in Oxen Hill, Maryland where she used her CNA skills to help the congregation.
Willie relocated to Greensboro in 2009 after the death of Robert Womack and joined Genesis Baptist Church where she attended Sunday School and church regularly, before she became ill. Willie was known affectionally as the ‘candy lady’ because she always had a piece to share. She also helped her son, Rev. Hinton, start an outreach Community Prayer Group when she stayed at Coley-Jenkins Independent Living Center. She would frequently support him with preaching assignments along with his wife, Wanda.
She was an amazing person who was known for her quick wit and feistiness. She loved to play games, go fishing, and travel, especially on cruises. She even bought a car and started driving after 40 years of not driving.
Willie departed this life on November 16, 2024, at Adams Farm Rehab and Long-Term Disability Center. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her children, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
