Betty Jean Gilyard McNeill was born November 2, 1938, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Abram and Geneva Gilyard.
She graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1956. She was employed by Guilford County Schools until her retirement.
Betty Jean, as she was affectionately called, was a faithful member of Genesis Baptist Church. Prior to joining the Genesis family, she was a life- long member of Shiloh Baptist Church. At Genesis, she faithfully served as a Deacon's Helper, sang in the Heritage, Inspirational and Mass Choirs.
She also served on the Kitchen Ministry. Betty Jean assisted with numerous Vacation Bible School, and Faith Academy summer programs.
Sister Betty was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Jasmine Chapter No. 19, Greensboro, NC.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents Abram and Geneva Gilyard, her husband Deacon Alfred McNeil, granddaughter Sasha Renee Davis Nwike. Unfortunately, the family loss Kevin (Skip) Gilyard, her son, on Monday, July 10, 2023.
